SpeedoMick is the Pride of Everton
To say that walking down Goodison Road with SpeedoMick (aka Michael Cullen) on a match day is an experience would be an understatement. We’d linked up with this wonderful character in The Winslow as we’d made arrangements to present a cheque to him for his charity. Job done we walked towards the Fan Zone with him and that journey took over 20 minutes. Every step of the way smiling people stopped, dropped some coins, and on occasions large notes, into his bucket and patiently waited to be photographed with this true blue celebrity. His infectious character means he has a word for everyone, especially those he catches “looking”, and pretty much every donation generates a thank you and handshake from this humble man. He would surely be a worthy winner of the Pride of Britain competition that he’s been shortlisted for. Whatever the outcome we were proud to meet him again and have no doubt that he’s The Pride of Everton and a credit to football in general. John Vanderwerff our Vice-Chair presented Mick with a cheque for £500 from the Shareholders’ Association as a small contribution to Mick’s work and as he’s passed his initial target it’s onwards now to a crazy, but achievable target for this wonderful man, of £100,000.
